What this book is about:
Picture this: you are in the middle of a white freezing stretch of land. Your heating fuel is nearly gone and your food supplies are fast dwindling. Your sled dogs are starving, they have chewed through their harnesses. You pony is being pelted by the merciless wind and snow. Your traveling companions are growing weaker with time and so are you.
This is the situation a group of 5 14-year-olds face. And this is what the world calls entertainment nowadays. It is the year 2083. The people of the world generally live in high-tech comfort. Public schools have been done away with and instead, children are required to watch special eduTV programming. The situation that the children are in is a television show called Antarctic Historical Survivor.
The DOE (department of entertainment) have created a series of television shows called Historical Survivor in which they recreate famous events in history such as the sinking of the ocean liner Titanic, the American Civil war, and World War 2. They then recruit contestants who try and live through those situations. If they succeed, they are paid enormous sums of money. But many do not survive. Now for the first time ever, 14-year-olds, are forced into one of these situations.
In 1912, Robert F. Scott and a team of men set out to become the first people ever to reach the South Pole. Their attempt proved to be fatal.
Now this group of 5 14-year-olds must attempt to reach the Pole. But if the Scott team didn't make it, what chance does the contestants of Historical Survivor have? They will face many of the calamities that the Scott team faced. If they survive all the way to the pole, they will be rewarded beyond their wildest dreams. But will they? What chance do they have in the freezing climate of Antarctica?
What I think about this book:
I absolutely loved it. It was amazing.
