Here's my review of the book
Into the Land of the Unicorns
by Bruce Coville
from the series
Unicorn Chronicles.

What this book is about:

Cara leads a fairly normal life. She lives with her grandmother, Ivy Morris, moving from place to place as her grandma wanders the country.
Fairly normal, that is, except for a hazy memory from when she was very small. She had a high fever, and all she remembers from her miraculous recovery is a white being and a quick flash of pain. She had thought it was a unicorn until someone told her that they don't exist.
But one day, as they are walking home from the library, Cara realizes: they're being followed. She and her gramma duck into a church, running away from the mysterious man. As they run into the church tower, Gramma Morris hands her the "special", an amulet she's only been allowed to hold once: the same day she was sick with the fever. As Gramma pulls the rope to make the bell toll, she tells Cara to climb to the top of the tower. At the twelfth chime, she is to throw herself off and say, "Luster, take me home." From that fateful day on, Cara's life will never be the same.
