I'm Maddie. I'm a 13 year old girl and I live in Illinois, U.S.A. I love books!!
Here's my review of the book
Cheaper by the Dozen
by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr.
What this book is about:
If you think you have a big family, you are seriously outnumbered by the Gilbreth family. There are 12 children in the Gilbreth family as well as Mother and Dad! How in the world, you may wonder, do Mother and Dad support a dozen children? You'll be surprised how well this family functions.
Dad, Frank Gilbreth, is an famous efficiency expert and runs his family almost military style. It is his goal to figure out the fastest way to do virtually everything from bathing to buttoning his vest. Mother, Lillian Gilbreth, is his loving partner.
Dad believes in learning something new everyday. Things like mealtime are 'unavoidable delay' to him and he uses those times to teach his children things like how to multiply large numbers in their heads and all about ant hills. And he says that summer vacation in Nantucket is the perfect time to teach his children Morse Code. But the family does run smoothly because of Dad's efficient ways.
But the two oldest girls, Anne and Ern, feel left out at high school because their father refuses to allow them to paint themselves (wear makeup), wear silk stockings, wear short skirts, date without Dad coming along, and a whole bunch of other things! The two girls perform daring stunts to get what they want, like buying silk stockings without permission. But Dad finally loosens their leash in the end.
At the end of the book, tragedy strikes and now the Gilbreth's are in a very difficult position? What is that tragedy? You'll have to read this book to find out!
This book is completely true and is written by two of the Gilbreth children, Ern and Frank Jr.
