I'm Hermione Granger. Chapter 8. P. 132.
Peeves the Poltergeist was worth two locked doors and a trick staircase if you met him when you were late for class. He would drop wastepaper baskets on your head, pull rugs from under your feet, pelt you with bits of chalk, or sneak up behind you, invisible, grab your nose, and screech, "GOT YOUR CONK!"
Chapter 9. P. 150.
Wood? thought Harry, bewildered; was Wood a cane she was going to use on him?
Chapter 10. P. 177. Ron dropped his wand. Hermione Granger, telling a downright lie to a teacher?
Chapter 11. P. 184-185.
Wood cleared his throat for silence. "Okay, men," he said. "And women," said Chaser Angelina Johnson.
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger

I'm Hermione Granger. Here are some more quotes!
Chapter 4. P. 52.
Dear Professor Dumbledore, Given Harry his letter. Taking him to buy his things tomorrow. Weather's horrible. Hope you're well. Hagrid.
Chapter 5. p. 65. "why? Harry, everyone'd be wantin' magic solutions to their problems. Nah, we're best left alone."
Chapter 6. Page 92.
"I'm not Fred, I'm George." said the boy. "Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can't you tell I'm George?
Chapter 7. P. 123. He'd never seen so many things he liked to eat on one table: roast beef, roast chicken, pork chops and lamb chops, sausages, bacon and steak, boiled potatoes, roast potatoes, fries, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, gravy, ketchup, and, for some strange reason, peppermint humbugs.
I agree, Allie. So many fantasy stories about magic take place in ancient times. It was nice to see a story about magic that took place here and now.
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger

I'm Allie. Hm...Discussion seems to be getting a little slow! I was just thinking about why the HP series sold so well, and I decided that it might have to do with the fact that the story is set in modern times, with a fully-thought-out "alternate world" kind of element. To rephrase that, JKR came up with plausible explanations for us not seeing magic going in our daily lives--it's perfectly believable--and everything that I can think of in the series fits together: there are logical laws of magic, a logical government, etc; it all makes sense. At least, I think that's one of the reasons why I, personally, love HP so much--I could be living in the wizarding world right now. Any thoughts?

I'm Allie. Thanks, Albus/Matthew for the link! The site has a lot of cool HP merchandise!
Hermione Granger, the "Hip new Dumbledore" fits perfectly! Your friend has a funny sense of humor:) I can definitely see how the beads and braided beard would support that nickname.

I'm Hermione Granger. Hi Errol! I agree. I don't like the new Dumbledore as much. My friend calls him the 'Hip New Dumbledore'!

I'm Angela. Errol ,I agree. I like the first Dumbledore better to. I just got used to that guy, and the other one seems too different, though I don't think he plays the part horribly.

I'm Hermione Granger. Hi guys! I've been online and I found this site that has news articles for kids. In one of the articles, I discovered that Jo Rowling is suing one of her fans for almost publishing a HP encyclopedia without her permission. She was furious and let slip that she was intending to write an HP encyclopedia herself. (yeah Jo!) Here's the link if any of you want to see it. http://pbskids.org/newsflashfive/?campaign=go_shows
The article is under the Arts and Tech section.

I'm Errol. Hi Madi! I love the Harry Potter books too, and I have to agree, the 7th is probably the best, I enjoyed reading it so much. I didn't really enjoy the third though. I don't know why, I think it's because I've seen the film of it too much and got bored of the storyline. I like pretty much all of them equally though. Do you like the films as well? The 1st film is my favourite. I don't really like the films once the actor for Dumbledore changes.. he doesn't do the part of Dumbledore as well, I think.

I'm Madi. I love the Harry Potter books!! I cried when I read the last one because I didn't want them to stop. My favorite Harry Potter would probably the 3rd and the 7th

I'm Allie. Here's a question for all of you guys: Does anyone know where I could buy a Deathly Hallows pin, like the one Xeno Lovegood was wearing at Bill and Fleur's wedding? I think it would be cool just to wear something like that around...like a Muggle club of "believers on the Quest" (as Xenophilius put it) :). My sister and I did make buttons with the sign on them, but a real metal pin would be a lot cooler!
Message #78 Posted on Saturday, April 26, 2008
I'm Allie. HP1 Chapters 14-17 highlights: (Ch14, pg. 239) "When they told him [Hagrid] about Charlie's letter, his eyes filled with tears, although that might have been because Norbert had just bit him on the leg."
(Ch16, pg. 278--on how to stop Devil's Snare) "'So light a fire!' Harry choked. 'Yes--of course--but there's no wood!' Hermione cried wringing her hands. 'HAVE YOU GONE MAD?' Ron bellowed. 'ARE YOU A WITCH OR NOT?'" *Note: Ron's quote was in all-caps in the book.
(Ch17, pg. 300--Dumbledore eating a Bertie Bott's bean he thinks is "a nice toffee") "'Alas! Ear wax!'"
This is it for HP1--opinions on whether to continue with HP2? Catch y'all later!

I'm Hermione Granger. Hi Victoria! You are so lucky that you got to go to two Harry Potter Book Parties! I wanted to go to one for DH last year but I was too busy. ):
Well I don't have my HP book on me right now so I'll sign off for the moment.
Message #76 Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2008
I'm Victoria. I'm a huge Harry Potter fan! I've been reading the books ever since third grade. I've only gone to two Harry Potter Book Parties, though. (The sixth book and the seventh book) These books are amazing! They're climactic and so much fun to read! They're my absolute favorite book series of all time!
Message #75 Posted on Thursday, April 24, 2008
I'm Allie. Because there are so many great parts, I'm only going to post my top favorite from chapter 6-13: (pg 217, Ron and Hermione on how Harry should solve the problem of being refereed by Snape in the next Quidditch match) "Don't play," said Hermione at once. "Say you're ill," said Ron. "Pretend to break your leg," Hermione suggested. "Really break your leg," said Ron.
That is definitely one of my all-time favorite excerpts :)

I'm Allie. More HP1:
Chapter 3: "By the time he was allowed out of his cupboard again, the summer holidays had started and Dudley had already broken his new video camera, crashed his remote control airplane, and first time out on his racing bike, knocked down old Mrs. Figg as she crossed Privet Drive on her crutches."
Chapter 4: When Hagrid says, taking about Harry's birthday cake, "I mighta sat on it at some point, but it'll taste all right."
Chapter 5: (on the Underground) "Hagrid took up two seats and sat knitting what looked like a canary-yellow circus tent." This is all for today; it's getting long again!
Message #73 Posted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Here's the first 3 chapters!
Chapter 1. Page 5. Mr. Dursley stood rooted to the spot. He had been hugged by a complete stranger. He also thought he had been called a Muggle, whatever that was. He was rattled. He hurried to his car and set of for home, hoping he was imagining things, which he had never hoped before, because he didn't approve of imagination.
Chapter 2. Page 20. About once a week, Uncle Vernon looked over the top of his newspaper and shouted that Harry needed a haircut. Harry must have had more haircuts than the rest of the boys in his class put together, but it made no difference, his hair simply grew that way - all over the place.
Chapter 3. Page 43. Monday. This reminded Harry of something. If it was Monday - and you could usually count on Dudley to know the days of the week, because of television - then tomorrow, Tuesday, was Harry's 11th birthday. Of course, his birthdays were never exactly fun - last year, the Dursleys had given his a coat hanger and a pair of Uncle Vernon's old socks. Still, you weren't 11 every day.

I'm Hermy. Hey everyone! I'm not going to do the challenge, as I am reading a rather lengthy book right now (Gone With the Wind), although I think it's a wonderful idea! I can remember one specific part that I enjoyed in the 3rd book though...it was the part where Ron calls Harry. I laughed SO hard!

I'm Allie. Hey Hermione Granger! I'm just posting HP1 chapters 1 and 2, since it got a little long. PG4: "Mr. Dursley, however, had a perfectly normal, owl-free morning. He yelled at five different people. He made several important phone calls and shouted a bit more."
PG21: "Aunt Petunia often said that Dudley looked a little angel--Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig." Catch y'all!

I'm Hermione Granger. Well if no one has anything else to say about DH then that closes our 7 week Harry Potter discussion.
I don't want the HP page to be deserted now that our discussion has ended so I've tried to come up with discussion starters.
I only have one as of right now and it isn't exactly a discussion starter. It's more for our entertainment. I'm challenging you to go and reread all of your HP books. Starting with the 1st one, find at least one of your favorite paragraph(s), or sentance(s) from each chapter. Then come back and post them here. Since we don't need posts that are a mile long, just do it one book at a time.
If anyone has any other ideas for discussion starters, by all means PLEASE post them!
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger

I'm Allie. Hermione Granger, I loved Kreacher's "transformation" from an unkind, muttering thing to a happy elf, too! My other favorites about the book were Hermione's (the other Hermione!) bottomless beaded bag, the Ministry of Magic espionage trip, the Gringotts escapade, and the final Harry vs. Voldemort scene.
Message #64 Posted on Tuesday, April 8, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Hi guys! Any comments on DH?
My favorite part was either during Bill and Fleur's wedding or when they stayed at Grimmauld Place with Kreacher.

I'm Hermy. I LOVE the way Jim Dale does the Harry Potter books on CD. Before the movie Goblet of Fire came out I listened to it on tape and I loved it! He said in an interview that he has to record the voices on tape so he can remember them.
Message #61 Posted on Saturday, April 5, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Hi Allie! Yes, I love the way Jim Dale does the Harry Potter books. I recently got the CD's for DH from the library and I've been listening to them. Jim Dale does an excellent job! I've only listened to POA and DH but he has done an excellent job on both of them!

I'm Allie. Hey Hermione Granger! DH time! Before I talk about the books, just out of curiosity, which of you have listened to any of the books recorded by Jim Dale? I got the DH CD's as a gift this year, and my family listened to it over winter break. I've listened to all the books on tape/CD (after reading them, of course) and DH was definitely one of my favorites to listen to!

I'm Allie. Hey Hermione Granger, Hermione Fan (I guess I should start using the Hermiones' "last names"), and Albus/Matthew! I forgot to say that I was teary when Harry went to look at Dumbledore on the ground. I have to say, though, that I was much, much more interested in the fake locket and the note than Harry was at the time, even through my grief:)
Message #54 Posted on Monday, March 31, 2008
I'm Hermione Fan. I agree with Allie about Dumbledores death. It's certainly a good theory. I also think that JKR killed Dumbledore to set us up for the big scandal regarding Dumbledore in Deathly Hallows. I was sobbing when I finished the 6th book!!
Message #53 Posted on Monday, March 31, 2008
I'm Albus/Matthew. Hi Y'all! I have basically the same theroy as Allie. If Dumbledore hadn't have died, it would make the rest of the series pretty boring since Dumbledore would probably know everything about the Horcruxes like...where to find them! :) I'm not saying that I liked the fact that Dumbledore died (I was in tears) it's just that the rest of Harry's story probably wouldn't have been as interesting.
Message #52 Posted on Sunday, March 30, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. An excellent point, Allie. I must admit that that never occured to me but it makes complete and perfect sense. With Dumbledore still alive, Harry would have been more reluctant to try and figure things out on his own.
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger
Message #51 Posted on Sunday, March 30, 2008
I'm Allie. Hi Hermione! I would definitely go for a bit of Felix Felicious once and a while! (Of course, only once in a while, because if you guys remember, the side affects of having too much are "giddiness, recklessness, and dangerous overconfidence." Not good!)
Ah, back to the famous Dumbldedore question--why, JKR, why?! Personally, I think that she wanted to make it absolutely clear that Harry was going to be using a lot of his own brain power in Deathly Hallows. He wouldn't have access to "He-Who-Knows-All" a.k.a. Dumbldedore, which is very important. Besides being an important plot point, Dumbldore's death signified that it was time for Harry to "take up the mantle" and figure things out on his own, which would've been impossible had the most powerful and reassuring presence to him been anywhere in the living world.
Message #50 Posted on Saturday, March 29, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Hi Allie! I love that part! Don't you sometimes wish that you had some Felix Felicious? I know I sure do!
My favorite part would probably be when Harry first discovered the Half Blood Prince's old potions book during the lesson with Slughorn.
I was absolutely devastated when Dumbledore died. I practically cried when it happened. I felt so sorry for Harry because he has suffered so much loss already. I can't help but wonder why JK killed him. Does anyone have any ideas?
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger

I'm Hermione Fan. Hermione-It's best to go to iTunes and search Mugglecast. Once the search results come up, click the picture with Harry holding an ipod in the air, and Voldemort trying to grab it from him (this should be near the top of the screen.)Once you get to that page, just double click on the episode that you want to listen to. I hope I was able to explain in well enough.

I'm Hermione Fan. Hey guys! I haven't Message # Posted on this page for a LONG time. I'm glad to see that so many people share my love for this book. I too read Deathly Hallows very quickly...not as quick as Caroline though! Have you guys ever heard of Mugglecast? It's a podcast that you can download from iTunes. If you have an iPod you'll know what I'm talking about. Anyway, Mugglecast is just a group of people that analize the Harry Potter books and movies. It's free to download, so check it out!
Message #43 Posted on Tuesday, March 25, 2008
I'm Caroline. Hey guys! Hermione Granger- I, too, am a fast reader. On July 21 when 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' came out, I started reading the book at 1:12AM, and finished it at 6:12AM. (I did not take any breaks) Yes, I do remember when I started and finished the book...! When I finished, I realized it only took me five hours to complete the final installment of the Harry Potter series, and I was astonished by how quickly I read it. I never remembered reading that fast in my life!! Well, after that I noticed people commenting on how fast I read, so I guess it's quite true. By the way, that was not the only time I read DH, or HP7. Since then, I think I must have read it at least 3 times, maybe more. Sorry I got ahead of the discussion, as we were on OOTP!!
Caroline
Message #42 Posted on Tuesday, March 25, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Ha-ha Allie! I read the 6th book in one afternoon. (I can be a pretty fast reader) I kind of rushed through it because it was soo good that I couldn't put it down. But even though I've gone back and read it more slowly and carefully, I still think that it was rushed. Especially compared to the other books.
Well we seem to be getting away from our original discussion topic. My personal fave part in OOTP is when Harry visits St. Mungo's too, Allie! I really like the fact that she brought Lockhart up again!
Best Regards,
Hermione Granger
Message #41 Posted on Monday, March 24, 2008
I'm Allie. Hey everyone! Since my dad read the book aloud to Caroline and I, we didn't really have the option of rushing through it:) We were reading it at the beach, right after it came out, and my dad would stop at the ends of the most suspenseful chapters and say, "Let's go to swimming!" or he'd tell us the next chapter number or title and make us say it before continuing to read, just to be annoying. It was! The worst was when he stopped in the middle of the the tower scene--when Dumbledore dies--and said his throat hurt so he couldn't finish. (He finished anyway) :)
Message #40 Posted on Sunday, March 23, 2008
I'm Albus/Matthew. Hi Angela! I agree, HBP did seem kind of rushed, but I think I was just rushing to read it because it had just into the part with Horcruxes and all that and I couldn't wait to see what happened.
Message #39 Posted on Friday, March 21, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. I agree, Angela. The 6th book was pretty rushed. It was still good though and I enjoyed it but it was very rushed.
Hi Allie! Thanks for looking that up for us! I like that part in OOTP too!
Hermione Granger.
Message #38 Posted on Friday, March 21, 2008
I'm Allie. Hi Angela! Interesting point about HBP! I do have to say I can't remember what happened in it as clearly (meaning, I can't quote as many large passages:) as I can in the other books. The rushed feeling didn't come across for me, but for those of you who did feel that way, maybe it was because HBP was such a crucial book--it explained the horcruxes and really set the stage for DH--and JKR was just having to cram everything in where she could. Also, with all the back-story of the lessons on top of school problems etc., the plot had a ton of points it had to go back and address every so often, which may have been confusing. Catch y'all later!
Message #37 Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2008
I'm Angela. Did anyone feel like the sixth book was kinda rushed? I thought it was probably the least-well written. I thought it didn't have quite as much detail as the rest of the books. It kinda seemed like J.K. Rowling was just trying to get it done. It was a great book, it just didn't seem as good as the rest.
Message #36 Posted on Thursday, March 20, 2008
I'm Allie. Hi Albus/Matthew, Angela, and Hermione! I did manage to look into the two-part movie, and you guys are right--it is actually HP7. Thanks for the clarifications!
Anyway, my favorite part of OOTP (HP5) is when Harry and the Weasleys visit St. Mungo's. I love how JKR brought up Gilderoy Lockhart again--he's a laugh!.
Message #35 Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008
I'm Albus/Matthew. Hi Allie! I heard the same thing as Hermione, that DH will be in two parts but, like Hermione said, I haven't heard anything about HBP.
Message #34 Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008
I'm Angela. Hey Allie! I heard the same thing- about the HP movie being broken up into two parts. I don't know how I feel about it... maybe it's for the better so all the important parts can be added in and nothing is left out. Still, it means we will have to wait until 2011 for the last movie to come out.
Message #33 Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Hi Allie. I can confirm that Deathly Hallows will be made in two parts. I've been searching and haven't found anything abuot HP6 being made into two parts but that doesn't necessarily mean you're info is false.
Hermione Granger
Message #32 Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008
I'm Allie. Sure, Hermione! And thanks for the link. But first, I read in my local paper (The Philadelphia Inquirer), that HP6 is going to released as two films, instead of one. Can anyone confirm this?
Message #31 Posted on Sunday, March 16, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. Are you guys ready to start on The Order of the Phoenix?
Message #30 Posted on Friday, March 14, 2008
I'm Hermione Granger. True, Allie. I suppose the Goblet had it's reasons for picking each of the champions. Because as you say, Fleau was capable of several complex charms. I wonder if Krum's being an international Quidditch player had anything to do with the Goblet picking him... (:
I've been online recently and I discovered this little bit of information on the Half Blood Prince movie. It's due to be released in the US and the UK on Nov. 21, 2008 and be released in Australia on Nov. 27, 2008. Here's my source; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_and_the_Half-Blood_Prince_(film). By the way, do we have any Australians on this site?
Message #29 Posted on Thursday, March 13, 2008
I'm Allie. Hi Hermione! Random selection is a possibility...But what would be the point of using a magical object like the Goblet instead of just any old hat or something, if it was random? Maybe it chose people who knew a lot about magic--which Fleur probably does since she knows some healing (as demonstrated in HP7) and how to do complex charms (HP4, various tasks).
