Twilight/Breaking Dawn
I'm Hermione Fan. Has anyone seen the new twilight trailer? The best version is on yahoo movies. It's ahhhh mazing! Also, leading up to the release of breaking dawn, Stephenie Meyer is releasing a new quote every day from the book. I'm so excited!

Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City
I'm Allie. Here's a recommendation: I just finished a book called "Kiki Strike," by Kirsten Miller, about five girls brought together by the mysterious Kiki Strike to use their special talents (ranging from genius chemist to master of disguises) and tunnels of the Shadow City--a secret, underground city beneath New York City--in order to solve a mystery. Try amazon.com for a more extensive summary...Anyway, it's creative and engaging and a lot of edge-of-your-seat enjoyment!

Alex Rider
I'm Hermione Fan. Earlier in the year, my friend wanted me to read Alex Rider. I'm not a very big fan of the books, but I've read three. So anyway, after I had read some, the author came to my city and I got my book signed! It was a good experience, even if I'm not a fan of the books.

Harry Potter
I'm Allie. Thanks for the link, Kathryn! The author of the piece is pretty convincing in that JKR must have made a mistake when saying that there were one thousand students at Hogwarts--the math just doesn't fit. But it's still odd that, if they exist, the other Gryffindor girls in Harry's year were never mentioned seeing as you take classes as a house up to third year.
Here's another question: Bill and Percy each got 12 O.W.L.'s (I think) meaning they took and passed 12 classes--but before Hermione walked out of Divination, she was taking 12 classes and needed a time turner. Did Bill and Percy just have a different kind of schedule so they didn't need a time turner? Also, on page 324 of the American hardback edition of HBP, Snape implies that Crabbe and Goyle will be taking their O.W.L.'s again. How do you think that works? Students can't get retests whenever they fail an O.W.L., because, for example, Harry failed History of Magic.

I'm Kathryn. Hi! Arya, I ordered the 1st one from Amazon yesterday because my mum was ordering a book and we get free delivery if you spend over a certain amount so we put it together. It should come in 3-5 weeks.

Harry Potter
I'm Kathryn. Allie, the numbers at Hogwarts are very weird.. I guess you could call my school a private school because it's an international (English-speaking) school in Japan and there's 40 people in our grade at the moment. We divide into 2 classes so we only have 20 people in a class. But the grades differ greatly because last year 12th grade only had 8 students while in 1st grade there are maybe 60 students.. I'm not sure. There's an article at this page about the number of students at Hogwarts. Please read it and tell me what you think because I've been wondering about the same thing for ages since I read this.

Alex Rider/Harry Potter/The Unicorn Chronicles
I'm Arya/Eowyn. Hi Cindy C.! I've read the first two, but I've not gotten around the others.I find them interesting... Hi Allie! I'm pretty sure that there's just a bunch of extras. Hi Kathryn! That's a shame. The third book was supposed to come out August 1, but it came out two weeks early. Now we get to wait a million years for the fourth! lol. BC can be a bit slow.

Harry Potter
I'm Allie. Hi guys! I've been rereading the Harry Potter books, and was wondering about a few things, but they won't all fit, so I'll only post one right now:) First of all, as far as I can tell, there are only eight Gryffindors in Harry's year--Harry, Ron, Seamus, Dean, Neville, Hermione, Lavender, and Parvati. I go to a public school, so I wasn't sure, but is it normal for there to be only 24 kids or so (if we estimate about eight in each house) in a grade at a private school like Hogwarts? Especially since there are only three Gryffindor girls...The easy explanations, of course, could be that JKR just mentions the important students and assumes that we know there are a whole bunch of "extras," or that Hogwarts is especially exclusive with few students (guess we never really get a head count...). What do you all think?

Other people on this site do too because there used to be a discussion (not a page, just on the 'other books page' about it except I hadn't read them at that stage. However I did finish reading them about a month ago and I thought they were great books.

The Unicorn Chronicles
I'm Kathryn. Hi Arya, there is a library but they have a very small selection of English books, unfortunately. I could request it because I've done that in the past but they tend to only get in books if they think it's worthwhile - eg. they have other books in the series.

Hardy Boys
I'm Arya/Eowyn. Hi Maddie! I started to read one of the Hardy Boys, but I thought it a bit odd that they got into a car accident or a chase every chapter, whereas there are some calm moments in Nancy Drew. It's good, still, but doesn't appeal to me as much as Nancy Drew.

Olive's Ocean/The Unicorn Chronicles/The Princess Academy
I'm Arya/Eowyn. Hi Akshay! Yes, I have read it. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was an okay book, I think. I haven't read it in a few years...maybe I should try it again. Hi Kathryn! Isn't there a public library nearby? I bet they'd have it there, or maybe you could request it. I'd bet my bottom dollar there's a copy in your county.(Or are libraries in Japan set up differently?) Hi Lizzie! I have read The Princess Academy- I love it! Have you read the Books of Bayern (The Goose Girl, Enna Burning, and River Secrets), or Book of a Thousand Days? They're all books by Shannon Hale, and are utterly FANTASTIC. An author I really like, Orson Scott Card, calls Ms. Hale "one of our best writers of fantasy", and Holly Black (the author of the Spiderwick Chronicles and Tithe) says she writes"deft, lyrical, wonderful fantasy."

I'm Kathryn. Arya, no, I haven't read it but your review sounded so good I went and looked it up on a couple of sites and I'm thinking about ordering it from Amazon. Unfortunately it's out of stock in amazon UK where I have gift money from someone but I can always get it on amazon Japan. Or perhaps I'll wait until the end of summer to get it in the school library.. if they have it.

I'm Akshay. Who here has read "Olive's Ocean" by Kevin Henkes? It is, as of right now, my favorite book. I cried for a long time, even though it wasn't as sad. Anyway, one of the best pieces ever written. It's not really that popular, but who has read it?

The third book, Dark Whispers, is coming out October 1. Here's my source: http://www.unicornchronicles.com/ I'm so excited! I pre-ordered it from Barnes and Noble yesterday. I'm Maddie. Hi Caroline! No, I haven't read the Hardy Boys books. But I hear they're supposed to be really good. I'll have to try them one of these days.
Hi Allie! No, I haven't read that. What's it about?
Hi Lizzie! If you ever read the Nancy Drews, you should read the originals. They are a lot better than the newer ones. I also like to read Agatha Christies as you might have guessed from my review of A Murder is Announced. (: I also love Star Wars books.

Any Book, The Falconer's Knot, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Harry Potter
I'm Caroline. Hey guys!! Lizzie- Your welcome!! Hmm, I like so many books there are too many to list! I love fantasy, fiction, a selection of science fiction...and probably more. If you are looking for book recommendations, I'd suggest "The Falconer's Knot" by Mary Hoffman. After I post this message, I will write a book review for it, so you'll be able to see what it's about. Also, if you haven't read the Harry Potter series, they are a must-read!!
Maddie- Yes, I do enjoy--well, I don't really read them anymore, so enjoyed--the Nancy Drew series. I have only read the old ones, because I thought the new ones just wouldn't be the same. I get scared easily, and actually I thought many of them were extremely suspensefully creepy, and got freaked out when the "bad guys" ambushed her or something!! =D Have you read any of the Hardy Boys? I think they are somewhat like Nancy Drew, but have main characters who are boys. I, personally, have never read them, but my dad read them as a boy and enjoyed them!!

The Five children and It
I'm Lizzie. Hello! Allie: I have looked on Amazon.com and there are a few diffrent virsions. Witch one do you have? Lizzie
Hi Lizzie. This is Alan L Brown, the guy who runs this website. There is only 1 version of "Five Children and It" by E. Nesbit. However, you will see many different covers. That's because the book is no longer in copyright and so any company can make a copy. It was published 106 years ago in 1902. Even though the covers are different, the words inside are exactly the same. Also, because it is out of copyright, you can read it on-line here. (In the "Turn to Image" box, type in 21 then press Enter. This will start you at Chapter 1. Then click "Next Image" to get to the next page.)

I'm Arya/Eowyn. Hi Maddie! If you're talking about the original series, I also enjoy them. If you're talking about the more recent series', I haven't really read them, but from what I've heard, the newer Nancy Drew isn't Nancy Drew.

If you go to www.stepheniemeyer.com you can learn a lot more about Breaking Dawn, and even read the first chapter of Midnight Sun, which is Twilight from Edward's point of view. It's soo cool. You were right about the release date. I don't know if I can wait through all of July! Well, thanks!

Gemma Doyle Trilogy
I'm Allie. Hi Christina! Great to hear from you again! One of my favorite things about the Gemma Doyle Trilogy is the setting. Spence, the chapel, and the woods just creates an intriguing atmosphere. And of course, I love the characters! The author is able to interpret the Spence girls' motives very realistically. I'm not sure which of the three books I liked best, though...

Any book at all!
I'm Christina. Wow. I can't believe sooo many of you responded to my message. And so nicely, too! Hey, Allie! I loved The Perilous Journey! The only part I didn't like was how Sticky's hair grew back. I know that's silly, but a Sticky with hair just isn't right... I love Gemma Doyle soo much. What did you think of them? Hello, Ben! Of course I've read those books! They're wonderful, especially if you're into Greek and Roman mythology, like me. You know, Greek and Roman gods and godesses are very similar. Hi, Erin. I'd love to know what those books are about! I think I've heard of them somewhere, but I'm almost positive I haven't read them. An, yes I've read Deathly Hallows and most Nancy Drew mysteries. Love them! Hey, Maddie! I LOVE TWILIGHT. You know, I'm sorta jealous of Bella... Edward is amazing. Thanks everybody!

I'm Kathryn/Errol/Sunny Baudelaire. Allie, I've read all the stuff that's in LOTR and The Hobbit but not any of the other stuff. I used to skip over poems and songs because they were boring but when I re-read it I actually found some of them interesting. I like The Road Goes Ever On and On too. I even used the main idea of it when I had to write a poem in Japanese class and was lost for ideas.
