It's a really good book about communist Poland--I'm not sure the dates... :/ sorry. haha :) But it's just a really well written book, that is definitely worth your time! I could NOT put it down last night, and I read probably 3/4 of the book in one sitting! Hehe it sounds like I'm "selling" the book to you guys, but I just wanted to see if anyone wanted to discuss it with me? :)

Discussion Topic: Twilight
I'm Annabel. Hey Cindy C, in a way I agree with you - the plot of Twilight is way overused and they are rather shallow (to be honest I don't even really like R Patz) but what I will say is that it can make a good feel good read when you're down because of how unrealistic the love in it is, in the sense that you can imagine that it will happen one day - there'll be a boy and you'll just fall in love and stay together forever because you get on so well. Well that's my opinion and I definitely don't obsess over it like some people do because it's not that good and I've seen the plot soooooo many times. But as I said it did make a good feel good read when me and boyfriend split up, but other than that it's not that good even though I own all four of them, I actually find that the characters aren't strong enough to last through all the books, they seem to die for me, dunno why. xx

Discussion Topic: Twilight
I'm Cindy C. I know this could be kind of strong, but this is how I feel about the book after I'm done. I woke up at seven yesterday and wrote a review since we had a snow day (in March, yeah, I'm surprised too). I can't say I like the book any more than I did when I started. Here we go...
Twilight is a popular series written by Stephanie Meyer. I have spent the last couple days reading Twilight. In the book, Bella Swan falls in love with Edward Cullen, a vampire, because of his 'unbelievable good looks,' etc. Edward thinks Bella's blood smells 'awesome', so he tried his best not to such her blood. They fall in love. While playing baseball with Edward, other vampires come and try to eat Bella, but she was saved by the Cullens. Ta-da! Happy ending.
That was a very brief overview of Twilight, but you get the idea. The romance, to me, is very shallow and unrealistic. Bella didn't even *care* how Edward is on the inside, and Edward only liked Bella's Smell. I have always thought it is the inside that counts, not the outside.
Thoroughout the book, I was disgusted by how 'perfect' Edward is. The first six chapters devoted themselves to that. I was bored, I was hating it, and it was lame.
Twilight gives a bad message to teens around the world. In the book, it tells us that it is okay for a boy to stalk you and watch you sleep, and hug you to sleep. Is it? I would think, if not you, your parents would agree. It isn't okay for a boy to sneak into your window and hug you to sleep, man, they didn't even know each other very well when that happened! However, it seemed okay with Edward did it, because he is "gorgeous, perfect, and breath-taking."
This book sounds like you can live on love alone, but I tell you, that is wrong. Without compassion, friendship, selflessness, courtesy, and other good morals, you will get nowhere in life. Twilight shows teens how "love at first sight" is *so* necessary, *so* important, and *so* required for daily life. But as far as I know, food, water, and shelter is necessary, not love at first sight. While love at first sight can be breath taking and fun and it feels absolutely excellent, Twilight demonstrates a type of what I call "unhealthy love."
You may be wondering what I had meant by that. Does being in love make it okay to neglect your school work? Does it mean you can talk back and make them upset? What about rudeness? Lying? If your answer is no, you are right. However, Bella did all those in the first book to her dad and school. That is what I mean.
Lastly, Twilight is just another piece of fiction, another piece of rubbish, and another piece of shabby literature. "Bella Swan" seems like a name the author just slapped on the paper. The plot is uninteresting- make something else happen! It is unoriginal - I mean, how many other vampire romance stories have you heard (google it)? And it sends a bad message to teens. I'm disgusted with this book.
You may wonder what team I'm on after reading the books. I'm proud to say that I'm part of "Team Twilight Stinks."
Before you start saying "Oh my gosh, I hate you, how could you say such a thing to an awesome book like this? I love Edward Cullen, he is so cute!" think about it. I had valid points in my article, what about yours? Saying that Edward Cullen is 'hot' isn't a very valid point to support your argument. And also, I'm entitled to my own opinion, as you are with your own. Since I read this book, I'm able to judge it. I don't hate it because it is popular. I actually read the book, and this is what I thought about it. I don't care if you disagree with me, and I will definitely respect your opinion if you respect mine. I would love to have a healthy discussion with those Twilight lovers out there! :)

I'm Cryssi. Hey Cindy C. I think twilight totally sucks....but New Moon I think is the best of the series but Twilight is just so boring really vampires are sooo pathetic and I hate Robert Pattison he is the worst person to play that part but I luv New Moon....GO TEAM JACOB!!!!!

I'm Cindy C. Most horrible book in the world. I'm at chapter six and I'm already bored to death. I think I'm more depressed than Bella. I'm trying to force myself to read on, but the book seem to get worse by the page.

Discussion Topic: Twilight
I'm Cindy C. Hello, Carla. I was just wondering if anyone would reply. :) I personally went to the library today to depart with my Harry Potter books :( and get my copy of Twilight. I'm going to personally read it for myself and see what I think about it. I'm not a vampire-ish person and probably won't like it, but by then I would have a presentable argument to my friends and tell them what I thought about it. :) But before then we probably won't have a far enough discussion. :) I love Eragon as well. In my school, there are 3 types of people: Wizkid (Harry Potter fans), Twilighter (as the name suggests), and Alex Rider (fans of Alex Rider). I'm a 'Wizkid', and most my friends are Twilighters, and they told me they are going to put the dark mark above my house and come after me. LoL. (In case you don't know what the dark mark is, that is, In HP, they cast the dark mark above one's house to show that the Dark Lord has visited and killed). I said that Harry defeats Voldemort and the light takes over the dark. It was a funny discussion. (though you probably won't find it funny because you weren't there.)

I'm Carla. Hi Cindy C. I am not a Twilight fan. It's pretty good, not the best series in the world- by my rating they're just above the 'okayish' line. I don't really see the point in it, by it still gives a night's read. It seems that by popular voice (myself not included) that romance is the years book genre. I'm sticking with Eragon, Redwall, Inkheart.

Discussion Topic: Twilight
I'm Cindy C. Hey, anyone here who is not obsessed with the Twilight Saga..? I haven't had the 'pleasure' of reading it (yet) but hope to soon. Though I can lead a whole discussion on Twilight just because of how much my friends talk about it. :( Can someone tell me why you liked it? I have heard that people just liked it because Edward is supposedly, well, as some would put it, "hot" or "cute"... (that is what a lot of people talk about at school anyways. I'm quoting. I would never personally say that. haha) something along the lines of that. Well, I don't really get *why* the Twilight Saga is so interesting. It is about a girl who falls for a vampire. So what? If someone can answer my question, that would be great, thanks. :) I find myself in love with the Harry Potter series than Twilight.

I'm Cryssi. Hey Annabel I totally think that TTYL and TTFN are the best books I've ever read I've read both I don't agree that all kids can't read it but it does kind of matter on maturity level and middle school grades are 6th to 8th grade.

Discussion Topic: Olive's Ocean
I'm Chocolate. Hey people!!Have you ever read this book,Olive's ocean? It's kind of scandalous because in one part, a girl named Martha and the boy she likes were filming a movie. The scene she was waiting for was finally coming.A romantic, lip smacking kiss.Martha thought it was a real kiss, until she saw the video cameras. She was steaming mad.I mean there she was with this handsome yummalicious yum who she likes, but the handsome yummalicious yum doesn't like her!Turns out the handsome yummalicious yum's bro liked her this whole time! so then she falls in love with him and lived happily ever after.oh!I forgot one thing the reason why it's called Olive's Ocean is because Olive Barstow wanted to be Martha's friend, but she died before she could tell her.So then Olive's mother came to her house and gave her a note. On a trip she took with her family, she had an eerie feeling after the note. Then that's when the handsome yummalicious yum takes place! so, if you want more info, Go...Find...the...Book...!

Discussion Topic: ttyl
I'm Annabel. Just going to the link Mr Brown posted about ttyl being banned in an American Middle School - I actually read this book aged 11 (never got hold of ttfn though) and my parents were fine with it. I suppose it just depends on maturity level or whatever, but to me banning it seems a bit extreme. If there are kids there that are mature enough to read it (could someone please tell me what grades middle school is - I have no idea) then I don't see the problem - I really enjoyed it and my just turned 12 year old sister has just finished it and liked it as well so...xxx

I'm Melissa Jasmine. Them Twilight Saga books are the best books I have ever read up till now. I would totally recommend them. But if you are below the age of 11 or you still don't know something else that I don't think I am aloud to say... Don't read it, wait until you know older things about life, or at least read it with a parent or someone whom you trust. I didn't really like New Moon in the beginning because it was sort of sad, but then it got better and it is one of the best books I've ever read.

Discussion Topic: The Saint of Dragons
I'm Carla. Hi Annabel! Yeah, I like evil dragons, but where would the story be if there weren't the good dragons to fight them? If there's any fights (dragon) in a book, I just give it up for a bit then go back to the book later.
I read the thing on wikipedia on Saint of Dragons, I looks pretty good. But I still don't believe in totally evil dragons, though I like to know someone really likes dragons!

I'm Annabel. Hey Carla, it's by Jason Hightman, the sequel is called Samurai. Lol, evil dragons are the best! And there I thought I was the only one who did, yay for another evil dragon liker! Ooh, the Septimus Heap books! I have all of them, they're really good (well the first two are, I've lost Physik and only just bought the other two Queste and Syren I think) x

Discussion Topic: Eragon
I'm Carla. Hi Annabel. You know, I think I asked that question because I just wanted to contradict someone.I totally disagree. absolutely completely. Dragons are nice, even the evil ones, maybe especially the evil ones! Plus, I can list loads of good books with dragons in:
Eragon - Inheritance Cycle
the Hobbit - Lord of the Rings
Septimus Heap
Hiccup Horrendous Haddok III
Dragon Orb
I'll give Saint of Dragons a try. Whose the author?
No-one at school likes dragons like I do... I wanted to know if anyone did :P

Discussion Topic: Eragon
I'm Annabel. Hey Carla, some dragons are cool (the one from Merlin's alright...he so should've killed Uther though) but they have to be evil, I'm not a big fan of the goody goody ones. Suggestion, try Saint of Dragons by Jason Hightman, those dragons are really cool (it has a sequel too if you like it...) but yeah, some dragons are cool but others are just boring...

I'm Annabel. Anyone on here into 'Buffy' and read 'Go Ask Malice?' Just wondering whether it was worth buying or not, it's way different from all the other 'Buffy'/'Angel' books I have so I'm not sure about it, thanks x Oh and Carla, it always is isn't it? I've only just noticed that now you've pointed it out, and I've read them all so many times - lol, oh well, I'm not the fastest of people to catch onto stuff like that... xx

Link to Write Page Message #946

Discussion Topic: Crocodile Tears
I'm Carla. Hi Caroline. Yeah, if you look through all the books at the beginning, its always focusing on one character, any one that'll get Mr Blunts attention. Even in other series like power of five they start off pointing the camera at one relatively important character. e.g. Necropolis - the girl didn't look before crossing the road... Point Blanc - Micheal J. Roscoe was a careful man...

Discussion Topic: Crocodile Tears
I'm Caroline. Hey :) Annabel-- Okay, so it's basically like the other ones? I thought it would be. :) LOL So anyways I've got it on my lap right now...and I have just read the first few pages. Is it just me, or is it a pattern, how Anthony Horowitz starts out his Alex Rider books focusing on another character, and about the character's "big plans?" haha I'm probably not very observant :) haha.
Carla-- Yes, I agree they are usually well written :) But, the only bone I have to pick with them, is the violence...I don't know it just seems like they got more and more violent as they went on...I dunno. And kind of unrealistic...but the author can write whatever he wants :) They're good plots though :)
Caroline

I'm Kassia. I live in a small town, so we don't have the greatest teachers. (A few are completely horrible, but some are really good). We also have a Reading class, which is a waste of time, and I know that most schools do that stuff in English instead. My mom is considering having me skip that class and be homeschooled for just that hour (some kids do that kind of thing here). But all we do in Reading class is read dumb stories out of the Literature book and listen to our teacher talk (and she has a voice that just puts you to sleep). I like to read, I can read, and I can understand what I read, so this class is just a waste of my time.

Discussion Topic: Inappropriate Language in Books
I'm Melissa Jasmine. I've never understood how come some authors think that adding inappropriate language to books makes them good books. I could understand if its an adult or teenager book but a childrens' book? Seriously. I remember while reading one book that was intended for children 10 and up. It had such appauling language that I just had to stop reading. That was the first time I had to throw any book away.

Discussion Topic: Classics for Children
I'm Maria Lee. I'm surprised that the website (that Mr. Brown offered for classics for children) that the list of books didn't include Peter Pan. I read the book online and I absolutely hate the ending. Mr. Brown, is Peter Pan (by: JM Barrie) a children's classic? I would think so since it's about not having to grow up and staying a kid forever. Does anyone agree or disagree with me and why? Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Discussion Topic: Boring Books
I'm Melissa Jasmine. I know Kassia. Classics can be very boring. Little women made me fall asleep and cry because I was so bored. However, I did find The Secret Garden very good. But classics can get very boring. Particularly little children's classics.

Hi Melissa Jasmine, Kassia and others. I just thought that I'd let you know that almost all classic children's books are out of copyright and are therefore available online to read for free. One idea would be to start reading one that sounds interesting from the title to see if it's worth getting the book from a library (or reading it all on screen). One site I like is the Baldwin Online Children's Project. It shows you a list of 542 children's classics sorted by title. You can see them by author by clicking 'Author' at the top of the page. One book on their site I like is 'A Little Princess' by Frances Hodgson Burnett (who wrote 'The Secret Garden'). You can take a look at it here.

Kathryn and Ashkay- ha! in our school, we don't have to read classics. of course, i'm in middle school... instead of classics, we read The Lightning Thief (very good), The Phantom Tollbooth (Okay), The Westing Game (Read it! Or else!), and The Egypt Game (pretty good). But next year (ninth grade, ugh) we'll be reading classics... :P. oh- you're not the only one who reads ahead, Kathryn. I do too, and finish the book WAY ahead of the rest of the class. I can't really help it ;)
