Hello!
I'm Alan L Brown, a 62 year old retired school librarian living in Toronto, Canada. After having been in the profession for 28 years in a K-5 school, I retired on June 30, 2002.
Time Moves On!
I created this website on April 10, 1997. I have maintained it ever since. This is a personal website, run as a hobby. It does not contain any advertisements and it does not sell any products or services. The site is updated throughout the day with new messages from kids. Only children from 8 to 14 years of age may send me messages from the 'Write' section of the menu. If you are older than 14 and you wish to contact me, please use the email link in the 'More' section of the menu.
Privacy Policy
On this site there are forms that children can fill out. When the children finish typing and click the button at the bottom of the form, the information they typed is converted into an email message and sent to me. The information I receive does not include the sender's email address. I have no way of knowing the email address of any child who sends me a form. If a child has typed their email address somewhere in the form or their home address or their surname or phone number or any information that can identify them, I delete this information before posting it to my site. Anyone reading the messages has no way of identifying the children who wrote them. If children or adults email me, I use their email address only to reply to them. It is not used for any other purpose.
Book Reviews and Messages
In the past, I have received a lot of book reviews or messages done by children together as a class in school. As this is a one-person operation, I find it difficult to cope with so many at once. If one or two children at your school wish, on their own initiative, to send me a review or a message, that's fine. But please, no class sets. This way I can maintain both the site and my sanity.
Book Reviews Not Posted
You may be curious as to why some children's reviews that I receive are not posted to the website. There are several reasons why.
1) The review is too short (1 or 2 sentences).
2) No author is given. This makes it difficult to identify the book as many books have the same title.
3) The review is written in such a way as to be unintelligible.
4) The language used is unacceptable.
On the Read Reviews page, I have posted notes to review writers explaining why I have not posted their reviews.
